Our Story
John and Elise met in the spring of 1999 at the YMCA in Franklin, TN. John worked in the weight room, and Elise lifeguarded and coached swimming. The next fall, Elise left her friend John for University of Tennessee (UT) before the semester started to attend Pride of the Southland Band Camp. Two weeks later, John came back to Knoxville to attend UT, as well.
During the first week of classes, Elise was walking to “The Hill” from her dorm, Clement Hall, across the pedestrian bridge that passes over Cumberland Avenue to Massey Hall. She heard someone call her name as she was crossing the bridge. That someone was John, who was also walking to class from his house in “The Fort.” John asked Elise to come to a party at his house to see John Sutton Band play. She happily accepted the invitation!
On the same pedestrian bridge, almost 22 years later, John asked Elise to marry him. They both look forward to hearing the same John Sutton play during their wedding reception!
Until the wedding, John will continue to work for Nashville’s finest carpet cleaning company, Wingfield’s Cleaning Service. Elise will be mobilized with her Air National Guard (ANG) Unit cross-training from Intelligence Officer to MQ-9 pilot. Once Elise has completed the entire pilot training pipeline, consisting of multiple temporary duty assignments out of state, John will join Elise in New York. John and Elise will reside in New York City. John plans to continue to hone his skills in the cleaning and stone restoration businesses. Elise will return to her civilian job as a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and commute to military duty in Syracuse monthly to fly the MQ-9.
